WhenHub - Supermodel Kate Moss

Supermodel Kate Moss

Arriving at the end of the "supermodel era", Moss rose to fame in the early 1990s as part of the heroin chic fashion trend. With a distinctive small stature and size zero figure that stood in sharp contrast to many of the curvy supermodels of her time, Kate Moss created a niche for herself in the modelling industry. She popularized the notion of delicate-beauty and the wide-eyed ‘waif’ looks. She is one of the most iconic figures of the fashion industry and has appeared in the covers of over 300 magazines. Furthermore, she has worked with all the top and established fashion labels, designers and photographers in the industry including, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Bulgari, Calvin Klein, Chanel and Rimmel. She received an award at the 2013 British Fashion Awards to acknowledge her contribution to fashion over 25 years.

The ‘Daily Mirror’ reported a story on her alleged cocaine addiction. That year she got into many controversies for her drug use. She was reportedly caught snorting cocaine with her boyfriend Pete Doherty. The lead singer of the band Babyshambles, Doherty has been arrested several times on drug-related charges. Because of the scandal that followed, she lost many of her lucrative modeling contracts with such companies as the clothing retailer H&M. The Swedish fashion retailer H&M dropped her from its campaign of autumn clothes designed by Stella McCartney because of drug allegations. The contract was reportedly worth £4 million a year. A day later, Chanel said it would not renew its contract with Moss, which was to expire that October, although its decision had nothing to do with the drug scandal. Burberry dropped Moss's campaign with them. Moss apologised, though stopped short of admitting drug use. Moss appeared in ad campaigns for Dior. She was on the cover of the November 2005 W and also inside in a multi-page fashion shoot. She was defended by designer Alexander McQueen, who, during his walk-out after a fashion show, wore a T-shirt saying "We love you Kate".Artist Stella Vine also supported Moss, and paintings by Vine, painted during the scandal, were exhibited and reproduced in the press.

She was interrogated by police and underwent drug rehabilitation treatment. On 5 January 2006, the London Metropolitan Police asked Moss to return from the U.S. to Britain to answer questions about the September 2005 cocaine scandal. On 16 June 2006, British police dropped the charges for lack of evidence.

Moss bounced back quickly. The British police decided not to charge Moss with any crimes, and she later went to the Meadows Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, for treatment.

By the next year, she had a slew of new modeling contracts bagging over 18 major modelling contracts with companies, such as Calvin Klein and Burberry, which had dropped her at the time of the drug scandal. Also in 2006, Moss reached a deal with clothing retailer Topshop to design her own collection of clothing.

Kate Moss has 'quietly' reached a formal separation agreement with former husband Jamie Hince. The 42-year-old model is allegedly describing herself as 'divorced' and apparently came to a pleasant agreement with the musician 'some time ago' without any 'high profile legal battle'.

Jamie Hince cited 'adultery' as the reason for his split from wife Kate Moss. The Kills frontman, 47, and the supermodel, 42, are believed to have ended their relationship last July, and Kate has since been linked to Count Nikolai von Bismarck.

The fashion icon has remained tight-lipped about the state of her relationship status, but has failed to deny reports she is now in a relationship with Nikolai, who is 13 years her junior. The two - said to have been long-acquainted through his mother, Debonnaire, a socialite who is friends with Kate - and reportedly began renting part of her London home in October.

This month, Moss is launching her own talent management agency: Kate Moss Agency.

I want to focus more on managing people’s careers than just [running] a modelling agency. I don’t really want pretty people, I want people that want to sing and dance and act — I want to create stars,” she says

At first, the agency will work with a handful of talents and represent them as models. To make her vision a reality, Moss has quietly been building a small team to work alongside Lucy Baxter, her longtime booking agent, who also left Storm earlier this year.

The supermodel-turned-businesswoman is also expanding the Kate Moss lifestyle brand with a string of new collaborations and projects set to roll out later this year. The move is a natural extension of her previous work for the likes of Topshop, Longchamp and Equipment, all of whom have banked on her brand power, working with her during her time at Storm to launch new products bearing her name.
